Professional Telepractice Certification aims to ensure that professionals are well-equipped with theoretical knowledge and foundational skills in telepractice. This is to effectively meet standard and evidenced-based methods that espouse the credibility of professionals towards client-centered care in providing services in medicine, education, health, and care via telepractice.

Certification Requirements

A professional can be included in the online public registry of Certified Telepractice Professionals  (CTPTM) when they meet the following requirements:

  • Proof of license or certificate to practice one’s designated profession (i.e., occupational therapist, special education teacher, etc.)
  • Completion of all five (5) fundamental modules
    • Submission of requirements for each module (i.e. case studies, reflection papers, etc.)
    • Attainment of at least 85% passing rate on each examination per module
  • Submission of letter of intent for certification
  • Evidence of at least five (5) hours of telepractice experience

Certificate of Completion 

Completion of each module will earn the professional a Certificate of Completion for the specific module. Only those who will comply with all the requirements listed can use the trademarked CTPTM as their post-nominal to validate their competency in telepractice.

Fundamental Modules

Introduction to Telepractice (Module 1)

This module includes an overview of telepractice covering its historical roots, the common terminologies used in the practice, its benefits and potentials, and practical application in medicine, health, and education. Some of the frequently asked questions regarding telepractice are also discussed in this introductory module. This module is good for both new professionals and those still transitioning into this service delivery model. It is informative and provides the basic background needed to step forward practice in a remote setting. It includes 3 hours of synchronous and 2 hours of asynchronous sessions.

Completion Requirement/s

  • Attendance on the synchronous session
  • Attainment of at least 85% passing rate on the examination after the session

  • Submission of research article regarding telepractice with personal reflection 

 

Establishing Telepractice (Module 2)

This module includes essentials in setting up telepractice that includes information and communication technology requirements and room organization. It explores the hardware and software needs as well as professional workspace necessities. This module is important in enabling the quality provision of telepractice across clients or service consumers. This module is divided into two parts. It is composed of 2 hours of synchronous and 2 hours of asynchronous sessions.

Standards and Ethics in Telepractice (Module 3)

This module includes the discussion of the ethical implications of telepractice on both the professional and the client or service consumer. Telepractice is an alternative service delivery model that does fit a lot of cases, however, some would not necessarily gain a lot in this practice alone. Given its vast scope, the module is divided into two. The first part narrows on the identification and selection of clients that incorporates perspectives in the local and global arena. This also focuses on information needed for informed consent. While the second part navigates on the documentation and billing process of the practice. It includes a preview of some applications that can be used for tracking attendance and managing financial aspects. Taxation is also incorporated. Overall, this module is composed of 4 hours of synchronous and 3 hours of asynchronous sessions.

Telepractice Evaluation (Module 4)

This module includes the preparations and the initial encounter of the professional with the clients or service consumers. Discussions on the building of rapport and the creation of a working relationship are emphasized in the module. Communication facilitators are covered in this module. Evaluation procedures and tips are explained to the participants in this module. Generally, this includes 3 hours of synchronous and 2 hours of asynchronous sessions.

Doing Telepractice (Module 5)

This module covers how telepractice is delivered in everyday practice. The module enables the participants on how to prepare necessary materials before the start of a telepractice session, be mindful of what are the important considerations during the session, and terminate a session without difficulties. A participant is expected to be able to design a 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute session after this module. Telepractice requires more and varied training but with the culmination of the program through this module, one can be a certified telepractice professional. This module includes  3 hours of synchronous and 2 hours of asynchronous sessions.
